#TMM9
Having recently completed its 9th season, The Mid-Majority is a community chronicle of the smaller Division I college basketball conferences. Last year, the theme was Team. Six groups of five (plus a fantasy mid-major player) were engaged in friendly Amazing Race-style competition, criss-crossing Hoops Nation to provide awesome college basketball content. Season X (2013-14) will be our final one.

S6 February 7, 2010 Apologies, once again, to Sly. Say, wouldn't you rather turn off the TV and have a thumb war with your friends instead? Here's how. ...
S6 January 20, 2010 Let me tell you a story you may not believe. (It's all true, I promise! No, really! Don't leave!) S6 November 12, 2009 INDIANAPOLIS -- We're all mature grownups. We can be totally honest here, right? We've all waited seven months for college basketball to return. When it did come back, we got three days of pre-planned, pre-scheduled blowouts, all in the name of video games and cancer research. Sub-Red Line teams w...
S5 July 23, 2009 Greetings, Hoops Nation. If I might interrupt your reverse-hibernation for a moment. Mid-July is often the exact midpoint between the Epilogue and the traditional start of Essay Season. As of July 23, there are 100 days remaining until the beginning of Season 6. Sports Bubble Blues: A Collectio...
S5 March 1, 2009 Bally wants to take teams No. 130 to 161 on the longest summer road trip since the And 1 Mixtape tour. ...
S5 January 31, 2009 As luck would have it, we got a somewhat decent response to our First Annual Bally Refrigerator Art contest. There were entries from actual kids, annnnd others who are probably old enough to do this. But how are we to prove anything? This is the Internet, where people talk with their fingers and lis...
S5 December 18, 2008 The calendar hasn't turned yet, which means that mid-majors are often spending time in power-conference arenas doing things they'd rather not do. Bally also prefers not to set foot in these places if at all possible, but this is just the way November and December are. Here are some of our little ora...
S5 December 9, 2008 LEXINGTON, Va. -- I think we can chalk up the weekend voting on the Ultimate Project contest an unqualified, unmitigated disaster. There were more complaints about the voting mechanism (clicking through either brought up a "please log in" screen or a full-screen ad to start your own poll) than actua...
S5 November 25, 2008 PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Tuesdays mean no lollygagging, goldbricking or hanging out in the alley. This is contest day, and we have a prize to give out: a real live stuffed Bally. And in order to keep 99.9 percent of Hoops Nation from feeling sorry for itself, we have another contest on deck. Hello, Bally ...
S5 November 19, 2008 PHILADELPHIA -- This blog has been involved in several pet causes... heck, this entire thing is a pet cause. But TMM is getting involved in a new charitable campaign that strikes to the heart of what's important in Our Game. This is all about getting Drexel students to adopt proper rollout procedure...
S5 November 18, 2008 PHILADELPHIA -- Drexel hosts Penn today at 10 a.m. as part of ESPN's Mega Mammoth Opening Day Explosion. This'll be the last morning game we attend, at least until the next NAIA tournament or summer AAU spectacubash. For that reason, we'll be short with this (MMBOW and G!O!T!N! will be forthcoming l...

S4 March 20, 2008 Well, here we are in Birmingham. I'm watching practices, asking dumb questions in press conferences, eating all the Cheetos at the media buffet spread, and waiting for the upsets to start happening on TV. While I'm doing Real Serious Work, Bally is living it up VIP style at the Big Dance. Follow a...
S4 February 28, 2008 The picture above is not of our travelin' hoops buddy. This is Bally's distant cousin Orangey, who retired to Fort Myers a few years back, let himself go, and took a job at a tourist-trap fruit stand near the Minnesota Twins' spring-training camp. What a sell-out. Here are some other snapshots of ...
S4 February 13, 2008 As you've probably gathered, we were in MAC and Horizon League country last week. There was a lot of snow, but Bally lives in my bookbag on the road and is generally unaffected by weather. It's warm in there. Bally's Midwestern adventure began at Valparaiso last Tuesday, where he got to meet the...
S4 February 7, 2008 When Kyle and Bally conspire to throw a Super Bowl party of Death, will Footbally survive? Third in a series; here are parts one and two. ...
S4 February 4, 2008 There's more than one Bally, and that's because we occasionally hold contests here and give away real-life versions of the cartoon buddy who goes everywhere with me on my travels. Like, for instance, our Hunan: Return Of The Phoenix movie treatment contest, which might be extended an extra day bec...
S4 January 24, 2008 Bally really enjoyed his visit to the Lawlor Center, home of the Nevada Wolf Pack. Nearly every seat is a season ticket, and when the home team isn't around, it hosts events like big-time wrestling and the Bull-Nanza. Bally really wanted to go to the Bull-Nanza. Instead, Bally went out to the ca...

S4 January 18, 2008 Folks sometimes ask me why I use the word "we" so much on the site. It's not anything "royal," not at all. Wherever I go on the hoops highway, I've got a little buddy who comes with me everywhere. He's orange, and his name is Bally. Last Wednesday, Bally went to Elon, one of the very few schools...

S4 December 31, 2007 Beatrice and Sandy Ever since faces launched ships, men have been giving inanimate objects women's names. Who knows why, really. It might be a subconcious effort to tap into the whole earth-mother provider thing, or it might just be an excuse to think about sex more often. Whatever the reason, it...
S4 December 17, 2007 This was a close one... we had one major-beating, hyper-efficient performance by a Sun Belt baller with Demetric Bennett's 34-point, 14-for-19 performance in South Alabama's 71-67 win over Mississippi State. But he was edged out by two great performances by a hot Horizon League shooter. Samuel Haanp...
S4 December 14, 2007   Miami (Oh.) (MAC) at Wright State (Horizon) Ervin J. Nutter Center - Dayton, OH 7:00 PM EST As we ease back into post-exam hoops, that little bridge across the holidays towards conference season, we have two teams that won their respective leagues last year. Both teams play slow, bruising ...

S1 February 11, 2005 Game 053: at Delaware 76, William & Mary 47 Saturday, February 6, 2005 Bob Carpenter Center - Newark, DE As the second half of a CAA second-division blowout wore sadly on, I pulled out my Sony digital camera and began snapping the traditional round of atmospheric pictures that make up such a la...
S1 January 28, 2005 Game 043: at Rider 75, Manhattan 46 Thursday, January 27, 2005 Alumni Gym - Lawrenceville, NJ Nobody ever mistook Alumni Gym for a Hoops Cathedral. Thick clumps of dust and mold cling to its crusty stucco walls and ceiling, and the low-hanging fluorescent cage-lamps assure that a migraine headache ...
S1 December 31, 2004 Game 022: Columbia 64, Canisius 58 Thursday, December 30, 2004 Madison Square Garden - New York, New York When the Columbia Lions men's basketball team got stuck in traffic earlier this month on the way to Hofstra, prompting the postponement of their game against the Pride, I made mock. I poked fun...
S1 December 24, 2004 Big West: Idaho 69, Utah State 62 (story) - Because the students were away, this game was moved from the 7,000-seat Cowan Spectrum to Idaho's old, dusty Memorial Gym (seating: 1,300). Utah State (7-3, 0-1 BWC) outshot Idaho 52%-44%, but the undersized Vandals (2-8, 1-0 BWC) outrebounded the visitor...
S1 December 2, 2004 UC Davis 72, Sacramento State 63 (OT) (box) - Davis has to wait until 2007 to achieve full Division I status and join the Big West, but they're wasting no time. S1 November 15, 2004 This site has been open for business no more than six days, and it is already being lit up like a Thanksgiving turkey.
