Six groups of five (plus a fantasy mid-major player) were engaged in friendly Amazing Race-style competition, criss-crossing Hoops Nation to provide awesome college basketball content. Season X (2013-14) will be our final one.

S9 March 30, 2013 I have been a reader of this website regular since Season 4 after being in and out of the first three seasons on here. The reason I became a dedicated reader is because Kyle Whelliston connected to me more than any other sports writer. His experience was going to the same games I did, literally go...
S9 March 30, 2013 Charleston Southern entered this game as the favorite, 12-4 in the Big South against an 8-8 squad from VMI. But as I mentioned in their last game, this is a new position for Charleston Southern. When you talk about places in Hoops Nation that have had a lot of struggling, CSU has to be near the top...
S9 March 30, 2013 The last remaining coach below the Red Line in the NCAA Tournament is Gregg Marshall of Wichita State. Six years ago, Marshall was coaching at Winthrop where he led the Eagles to the Big South's lone Round of 32 appearance. In this quarterfinal game, it would be Pat Kelsey instead coaching Winthro...
S9 March 14, 2013 The VMI Keydets are always among the bigger attractions in the Big South. Not necessarily because they are good (although VMI is usually better than they are given credit for), but how they play Our Game. Keydet coach Duggar Baucom tends to emphasize a game focused on offense and often a high tem...
S9 March 4, 2013 The college basketball season is one which goes through many twists and turns during a regular season. Conferences can change with one game or one moment. The regular season conference schedule is important for most teams. It tests your mettle in a 14-20 game schedule, and whoever is the winner of ...
S9 February 15, 2013 The Big South leading Charleston Southern Buccaneers had another big game against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. Charleston Southern was the last team in the Big South to be undefeated, having won all seven games in conference to start. But to keep ahead of defending champion UNC Asheville, the...
S9 February 2, 2013 After my previous game at Coastal Carolina, I would make the long drive down the South Carolina coast to see High Point play at Charleston Southern. I would of course not be the only person doing that, as Matt Cayuela would be making the same trip as well. Due to the early start of the Coastal ga...
S9 January 30, 2013 I arrived at Charleston Southern's CSU Field House just prior to 6 PM. Unlike when I went to see College of Charleston play Old Dominion a month prior, I knew that the game was not until 7:30, and the arena would not open until 6:30 P.M. I considered eating at either the Arby's or Wendy's down th...
S9 January 27, 2013 After watching the leaders of the Big South North Division, VMI, lose to Coastal Carolina, I was on my way to see the leaders of the South Division, Charleston Southern. The Bucs would be facing a cross-divisional opponent in High Point. With the Keydets loss, Charleston Southern was the last team ...
S9 January 20, 2013 Trying to figure out where I want to travel to on any given Saturday during hoops season can be tricky. Since I have the weekends off, I have the flexibility to go wherever I please. When Coastal Carolina has a home game it usually means I will not be traveling too far away since I will have to fit...
S9 January 13, 2013 The beautiful thing about mid-major college basketball is that everyone starts the season with excitement and hope. You get to see how new pieces will begin to come together and everyone feels as if they have a shot heading into conference play. In their first year of conference play things were in...

S7 March 13, 2011 If college basketball has taught us anything, it's that there's nothing that becomes irrelevant more suddenly than Championship Fortnight. S7 February 23, 2011 CHICAGO -- Every single one of the conference games going on tonight, and tomorrow, and Friday and Saturday too, were scheduled months in advance by a league office (or, in some cases, years ago). Some were circled rivalry games worth driving a day for, others were just-anothers. In early March, t...
S7 February 22, 2011 CHICAGO -- BracketBusters 2011 can be summed up tidily in one paragraph. Utah State came back from 10 down at Saint Mary's to earn a résumé win. As the Missouri Valley -- the most successful conference in the short and strange history of BracketBusters -- bombed out with a 3-7 showing, three top t...
S7 February 16, 2011 HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- March really is here before we know it, because there's half a week missing out of February. This month wasn't designed that way -- and nothing was adjusted for our benefit or anything -- but it's still disorienting and disruptive to look at a calendar and realize that in two ...

S7 February 1, 2011 PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- So much has changed in a single calendar year. On February 1, 2010, the iPad had just been announced, and no mere civilian had touched one yet. Now, they're on press row at college basketball games. The Robot has grown a soul, exhibited feelings, taken a name. (It's "Doctor Thun...
S7 January 31, 2011 As is annual tradition here at TMM, we've put together a full rundown of all the announced BracketBusters matchups, and this will likely be the most clicked-on page of the season once again. S7 December 15, 2010 In 1996, Malik Rose recruited me to Drexel University. Not in person, but through a 17-inch TV set. The invite came in the form of slam dunks and jump shots. I was living in Oregon, looking for an east coast school to attend, and there was this 6-foot-7 guy, leading the Dragons to a 12-over-5 upset...
S6 March 3, 2010 Bullet Points Ten of 12 higher seeds won on the first evening of Championship Fortnight. S5 March 2, 2009 INDIANAPOLIS -- Every day we get just a little more physically vulnerable, every day another step closer to the inevitable finish line of life. The positive trade-off is that whether we've cheated the reaper by strengthening our bodies or not, our minds are always increasing in power. Every day, we ...
S5 February 17, 2009 If you've been watching the Big South standings (and if you haven't, please write us a 2,000-word essay why not), you may be wondering what this "Radford" is, why it's won 13 of 15 league games, and how you can get some for yourself. The Highlanders are on a seven-game streak and now lead the BSC by...
S5 December 5, 2008 SOMEWHERE IN MISSOURI -- Our Ultimate Project contest ends today -- or rather, the first phase of it. There were so many great entries (over 40) that I personally can't decide on who The Mid-Majority's No. 1 work-in-progress big man should be. So we are going to put it to you, gentle readers. The fi...
S4 March 17, 2008 Bullet Points In the final final in mid-majordom, Texas-Arlington emerged as surprise Southland champs. All hail! We had 78 entries into our "guess-the-play-in-matchup" contest on Saturday, and not a single correct answer. The correct pairing, as we all know now, is Coppin State (MEAC) against Moun...
S4 March 5, 2008 Bullet Points The first two upsets of Championship Fortnight occurred yesterday. The OVC's No. 6 Tennessee State won at No. 3 Morehead State, while Horizon No. 8 Loyola (Ill.) shocked No. 5 Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Big South's four top seeds won to set up Thursday's semifinals. OVC No. 4 Tenness...
S4 March 4, 2008 Bullet Points Championship Week, which is technically 13 days long, begins tonight. You can call it Championship Fortnight if you prefer. S4 February 29, 2008   North Carolina-Asheville at Winthrop (Big South) Winthrop Coliseum - Rock Hill, SC 7:00 PM EST Nine teams and fourteen conference games make for a lot of floating variables; it's mathematically unlikely that a league title could come down to any single game, especially the last one of the ...
S4 January 18, 2008 Until the night of Nov. 7, 2007, most college basketball fans didn't know Gardner-Webb from a weed whacker. But with a 84-68 thumping of Kentucky at Rupp Arena, the little school in Boiling Springs, N.C. was thrust into the national spotlight. It was the first major story of the 2007-08 season, the ...
S4 January 15, 2008 ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tuesdays are generally going to be a bit slow around here during conference season. For all its presupposed "Big"-ness, Mondays are nearly as slight as Fridays schedule-wise, with only the MEAC, SWAC and a few WCC and SoCon games reporting. So that gives us here at The Mid-Majorit...
S3 February 28, 2007 Bullet Points Two defending champions were eliminated: Wisconsin-Milwaukee of the Horizon League and Murray State of the OVC. S3 January 9, 2007 NASHVILLE -- I guess it's basic human nature that we try to build fences and walls, to divide the included from the excluded, to protect what's inside from what's outside. There's nothing worse than the idea that the world doesn't make sense -- that's the fundamental building block of organized reli...
S2 March 1, 2006 What's more painful than pain? More painful than having to listen to T-Pain? Winning 19 games, then having your entire season wiped out by a 21-point loss on your home floor to the No. 6 seed. Yowch! The Big South tourney, always good for an upset or two, didn't disappoint in Tuesday night's quarter...

S1 March 6, 2005 Bullet Points Four Dance tickets were punched: Winthrop, Eastern Kentucky, Central Florida and Chattanooga. S1 March 5, 2005 Bullet Points Two one-seeds went down: Tennessee Tech lost in the OVC semifinals, and Davidson was eliminated in the Southern Conference semis. S1 January 23, 2005 Missouri Valley: Wichita State 58, Southern Illinois 56 (story) - The Shockers had the boards (42-32) and the defense (held SIU to 32% shooting in the second half), but the Salukis had enough streaks and runs to keep it close. S1 January 20, 2005 Colonial: Old Dominion 67, Hofstra 66 (story) - As was the case in their recent squeaker against Drexel, Old Dominion raced out to a big lead and then hit the cruise control button too early. S1 January 16, 2005 Metro Atlantic: Marist 88, Niagara 87 (story) - The half-asleep Purple Eagles (9-6, 4-3 MAAC) were spent emotionally and physically after their tough loss at Manhattan the other night, and almost had enough to sleepwalk through this one. But the upstart Red Foxes (who are now a surprising 5-1 in con...
S1 January 11, 2005 Mid-Continent: Western IIlinois 85, Oral Roberts 83 (story) - I said last week that we wouldn't be bothering to mention WIU that much this year, but I was brutally incorrect. S1 December 16, 2004 Lander 67, Charleston Southern 59 (story) - To get beat by a Division II team, you usually have to go to Alaska or Hawaii.
