- The Big South's four top seeds won to set up Thursday's semifinals.
- OVC No. 4 Tennessee-Martin beat No. 5 Samford 101-94 in triple overtime, ending the Bulldogs' stay in the conference. Samford will join the SoCon in 2008-09.
- Three more tourneys get under way tonight: the Sun Belt holds a campus-site first round in advance of quarterfinals this weekend, the Patriot League's campus-site quarterfinal round begins, and the Atlantic Sun will stage two quarterfinal contests.

This is the first time in six years that all the top seeds have won out. UNC Asheville cruised to an easy win over Chuck S., while Winthrop won its 10th consecutive BSC tourney game. Liberty's 17 made 3-point field goals set a league postseason record, and reigning MMBOW Arizona Reid hit the winning jump shot with 10 seconds left to give HPU its first win over the Chanticleers this season.

UIC had an easy time of it against YSU, but they'll get a surprise rematch with crosstown rivals Loyola after the Ramblers won their third in four games by upsetting UWM on the road. Wright State allowed only 13 points in the second half to eliminate Detroit, and five Valpo players scored in double figures to net the Crusaders their first-ever HL tourney win after joining the league last summer.

The semifinal field is set in the OVC; the final four will gather on Friday night in Nashville. Austin Peay dropped a 25-4 first-half run to run away from EKU in a rematch of lat year's final. Murray got 25 points from Bruce Carter to help eliminate TTU, and Morehead's breakthrough season came to a crashing halt with an upset loss at home against the Tigers of TSU. But the first instant classic of March 2008 occurred in Martin, Tenn., where the Skyhawks and Bulldogs battled for 55 minutes until Marquis Weddle hit six straight free throws in the third OT to ice the win.

That's not a misprint -- recent powers Bucknell and Holy Cross really are the two bottom seeds in this tourney. American is looking to achieve its first NCAA Tournament in its history.

Sun Belt

The worst thing about finishing with a bad record in the Sun Belt is that you have to travel a long distance to play what is likely to be the final game of the season, on short notice to boot. But check out the 7-10 game between local rivals: if our visit a few weeks ago was any indication, it could get ugly. And should Arkansas State lose tonight, it will be the school's final game with its "Indians" moniker.
