Out in the Colonial Delaware is running away from the pack. The Blue Hens are 10-0 in the CAA and in the midst of a 12-game winning streak. Those numbers almost came crashing to a halt last Wednesday, but Delaware guard Davon Usher came to the rescue. For a great week and one of the better single game performances you'll ever see Davon Usher is the 13th Mid-Major Baller of the Week for the TMMX season.
Last Monday Usher had 25 points and five rebounds against Northeastern, a good game. Two days later against Charleston, Usher had his game for the ages. Usher scored 42 of his teams 67 points to lead a comeback as the Blue Hens trailed by as many as 20 in the final nine minutes. On defense Usher had seven steals, the second-highest amount for any player in the nation this season. All of this happened the day after his grandmother passed away.
Take a look at this box score
, because the numbers are crazy. Usher scored his 42 points on just 20 shots. He upstaged teammate Devon Sadler, who was honored before the game as Delaware's all-time leading scorer. Sadler and Usher combined to score 88-percent of the teams points, as only two other Blue Hens scored. Charleston lost, despite shooting 58-percent from the field, in large part because they turned the ball over 26 times in a 70 possession game (37-percent!). Only three Delaware players grabbed a rebound, and the team only had 13 total, to put that in perspective there have been 494 single players that have grabbed 14 rebounds in a game this season.
Delaware has just a single game this week against James Madison before preparing for the home stretch run. Following that the Blue Hens play four of their final five games on the road. Delaware is getting so close they can smell their first conference championship since 1999, they are two games clear of second place Towson, with a big game coming in Baltimore on Feb. 17.
