For the last three years Long Island has been the king of the NEC. They have three straight league tournament titles and won the two out of the last three regular season titles. That changes this year as the Blackbirds are well out of the race as we close in on the midpoint of league play. The top two contenders face off tonight in the G!O!T!N!
Bryant is a great story this season. The Bulldogs joined the league in 2009 and promptly won a single contest during the season. A bump to nine wins in 2010-2011 was immediately followed by a two win season in 2011-2012. In a lot of places that would have likely cost a coach his job, but Bryant hung with Tim O'Shea and the Bulldogs had a 17 game improvement in 2012-2013 and are battling for a league title this year. Dyami Starks is a former MMBOW after he scored a cool 100 points in in first three games of the season. The scoring has gone down a bit in league play, but the wins haven't. Bryant is 5-1 in league play, but is hitting a tough part of the schedule, playing five of the next six away from home starting with tonight's big 'ol showdown with Robert Morris, which is incidentally the only team in the NEC to beat the Bulldogs.
During the Blackbirds reign of terror in the NEC it was Robert Morris that broke through and won the regular season title last year, but Bob Morris didn't go dancing after falling the second round to Mount Saint Mary's. The Colonials have already won at Bryant this year and a victory tonight would put them two clear of the pack in the NEC at a perfect 7-0. Karvel Anderson is also a former MMBOW and the sophomore is still kicking ass and taking names. Anderson leads the league in tons of efficiency categories including points per 40 minutes (26), true shooting % (66.8) and points per shot (1.33).
This is a big one in the NEC and as a bonus it is being televised on ESPNU. So cancel those Thursday night plans and get ready for some hotttt NEC hoops
