The Colonial is like many of the great conferences that following the realignment storm of the last few years doesn't quite resemble the league when it was at its peak. There is still great basketball being played out in the CAA and on Wednesday night the top two teams in the league standings meet for a rematch.
Two weeks ago Delaware held serve at home against William & Mary 76-71. The Blue Hens were led in that match up by a combined 62 points from guards Davon Usher, Devon Saddler and Jarvis Threatt. Sadler has scored at least 22 points and led the team in scoring in every CAA game so far this year and has Delaware riding an eight-game win streak and a perfect 6-0 record in league. Delaware pushes the pace on offense (73.5 possessions per 40, 25th highest in NCAA) and has had really good success offensively because of that. A lot of teams will take a trade off of more turnovers with increased tempo, bu the Blue Hens are the 11th stingiest teams in terms of giving up the rock in the nation.
William & Mary ave a lot of success on offense as well, but are near the opposite end of the pace spectrum averaging just 65.6 possessions (300th overall). The Tribe rely on the #superhoop, getting over 35% of their offense from deep and because of that are efficient shooters, leading the conference in effective field goal percentage. Marcus Thorton is the scorer to watch for from the Pantless Griffins, averaging just under 20 a night, but to his second-lowest output of the season when he scored just 10 in the last game between these two.
Can Delaware win and further cement their lead on the CAA or will the Tribe bring them back to the pack?
