Conference season is right around the corner, but as the final throws of the preseason finish up Willis Hall of College of Charleston put together one of the best performances of the season. For that and a stellar all-around week Hall is the eighth Mid-Major Baller of the Week for the TMMX season.
Over the last three games for the Cougars the 6-6 senior has gone off, collecting 62 points and 51 rebounds. At the Citadel last Sunday it was 18 points and 13 rebounds and against Howard on Saturday he dropped 18 and 17. Those two performances alone might have been enough to put Willis on the radar, but it was the sandwich game on Wednesday that really shines through. Hall dropped only the second 20/20 game of in college basketball this season, going for an absurd 26 points and 21 points against Davidson.
C of C and Davidson have fought over supremacy in the Southern Conference for years, but the series, like so many other great rivalries, has found its way into the non-conference portion of the schedule for the first time since 1958 this year. C of C has moved to the Colonial and Davidson reportedly turned down the same invitation.
The 20/20 was the first in history for C of C and brought the Cougars a road victory over Davidson for just the fourth time ever. The Cougars head into conference play with an 8-7 record, but have not coincidentally won three in a row to head into the CAA opener with James Madison tonight with a little head of steam.
