Game #9-276: South Carolina-Upstate Spartans at Tennessee State Tigers

December 21, 2012 8:00 pm
Howard Gentry Complex
BBState Stats/Recap
There are games to write about in breathless prose and there are games to write about in a series of haikus. As the prescient reader will have already guessed, this is the latter:

Tennessee State U

Western Nashville, Tennessee

Twelfth month, twenty-first

Arriving early

Sitting in the car reading

King's The Running Man

Enjoy a fun fact:

Tennessee State track and field

Forty Olympians!

Previous haiku

Ended in six syllables

Won't happen again

Back at the contest

Arena bowl is empty

Quite sparse attendance

Arena looks bare

With ten thousand seats and no

Ominous curtain

Hopping Cats player

Torrey Craig hoops for Upstate

Psyched to see him ball

First half back and forth

Spartan leads bookend the frame

End half up by four

Concessions at half

Popcorn and a grape soda?

Match made in heaven

Next twenty minutes

Tigers reclaim advantage

In for excitement

The Spartans not done

Stay within striking distance

Thank all the rebounds

An old Tiger fan

Not satisfied with slim lead

Shouts during free throws

She sounds rather strange

Almost like drowning ferret

Spartans miss free throws

Was this undoing?

Won't ruin by speculation

'Twas hilarious

Contest winding down

Spartans mount crazy comeback

Down three, five seconds

Torrey Craig fouls man

Tigers Cyphers misses both

Craig snatches rebound

Time is winding down

Desperation three pointer

Caroms off front rim

Rising from my seat

Walking out with my girlfriend

Back to Ohio

Driving through the night

"How do I write about game?"

"Restrictive haiku."

Momentarily

I ponder this suggestion

"Why not!" I exclaim.

Not the best writer

Haiku diction like caveman

No apologies

This becomes grating

Back to some traditional

Articulate stuff
