Bullet Points

  • There were no championship games on the tenth day of Championship Fortnight, but there was a full set of seed upsets that transformed brackets. The biggest one came in Conference USA, where No. 8 East Carolina stunned regular season champions UAB in overtime.
  • It was a day for luck No. 7 seeds. Texas-San Antonio continued its march through the Southland bracket by beating No. 3 Sam Houston State. Big West No. 7 UC Riverside continued on by dumping No. 2 seed Cal Poly. The Great West's No. 7, Houston Baptist, ended the season of No. 2 NJIT.
  • Other lower seeds to survive and advance included the No. 6 in the Mid-American Conference, Akron. The Zips took our No. 3 Miami in double overtime. Norfolk State, the No. 6 seed in the MEAC, advanced to that league's semifinals by knocking off Coppin State, who had finished third. Grambling, the SWAC's No. 6, moved on as well.
  • Title game this afternoon between Lafayette and Bucknell in the Patriot League. The remaining Atlantic 8 gather in Atlantic City for a full slate of quarterfinals. All other tourneys are winding down. The Big West, MEAC, SWAC, Western Athletic, Mid-American, Conference USA and the non-NCAA qualifying Great West hold semifinals in advance of title games this weekend.
