Men's Basketball Rallies Late, Downs VCU in Overtime - Cam Long hit a pair of free throws with 4.3 seconds to play to force overtime and the Patriots, after rallying from a 15-point deficit, beat VCU, 82-77 in front of the largest student crowd in George Mason school history. The Patriots beat the Rams with 5,486 fans in attendance including 2,091 students. Mason broke the school record for consecutive home wins against Colonial Athletic Association opponents as the Patriots have now won 18 straight against CAA teams at Patriot Center. PLEASANT, Mich. - Steve McNees scored 16 points, making every shot he attempted from the field and the line, and Akron finished on a 12-3 run to overtake Central Michigan 56-52 on Tuesday in a Mid-American Conference men's basketball game at Rose Arena. McNees, who scored 13 points after halftime, made all four of his shots from the field, each from 3-point distance, and all four free throws to lead the Zips (18-7, 8-3), who won their third straight and fifth in six games.
