Having recently completed its 9th season, The Mid-Majority is a community chronicle of the smaller Division I college basketball conferences. Last year, the theme was Team. Six groups of five (plus a fantasy mid-major player) were engaged in friendly Amazing Race-style competition, criss-crossing Hoops Nation to provide awesome college basketball content. Season X (2013-14) will be our final one.

S9 April 9, 2013 I. Bucharest, Romania - February 9, 2013Admission was free. I didn't think I'd have to squeeze into a first-row baseline corner a full half-hour beforehand, though. This was a country with a basketball legacy summed up in a single gentle-giant folk hero, one who wore his freakish height on his jers...
S9 December 2, 2012 CHICAGO, December 2 -- The World Wide Web in 2004 was a far different world than the one we know now, but it held an eye-glint reflection of things to come. Real-time conversations among strangers were only possible in "Java applets," the term "sports blog" hadn't been coined yet, and "meme" was sti...
S9 November 8, 2012 CHICAGO, Nov. 5 - In January 2006, I had the opportunity to spend a Sunday hanging out with Southern Illinois equipment manager Alvy Armstrong. S8 November 2, 2011 The 800 Games Project will be made up of 800 individual games, and each recap must be awesome. To ensure this, here are eight simple guidelines to keep in mind as the season winds on. 1. The minimum length of a game recap is 400 words. That isn't very long. Anything less, and you're not giving fol...
S8 November 1, 2011 CHICAGO, October 30 -- About a year ago, George Mason head coach Jim Larranaga called. "Thanks for writing that nice article about our 2006 team," went the voicemail. S7 April 4, 2011 HOUSTON -- Win or lose, this is it. Today, April 4, is the 154th and final day of The Mid-Majority's Season 7. As of this writing, the ultimate final result remains unknown. S7 April 3, 2011 AP HOUSTON -- In the early morning of January 20, 2009, after watching South Carolina State and Howard play a MEAC regular season game, I slept for two hours, grabbed my stuffed basketball, and made my way through the spaghetti tangle of Beltways and Metro lines to be on the Washington Mall to witn...

S7 April 2, 2011 SAB HOUSTON -- For the past five months and one day, I've been very careful about making as few forward-looking statements as possible -- except when specifically hired to. S7 April 2, 2011 HOUSTON -- For the record, Jack Swiger said "Houston, we've had a problem." A present-perfect report of the recent past, not an implication of overwhelm -- as per the endlessly repeated "we have" or "we've got" misquote. Big difference between the bottom of the valley and the first steps out of it...
S7 April 1, 2011 By now, most TMM readers are familiar with Chris "Pavarotti" Crowley, the self-described "that VCU guy" and the Rowdiest Ram of all. S7 April 1, 2011 At some point around the #ALLCAPSGAME, a big shiny Robot began appearing at Butler's Horizon League contests games. A Ron5Robot! S7 March 31, 2011 AP HARTFORD, Conn. -- I remember my first fixed game. It was five seasons ago. In the final minute of a body-bag guarantee matchup in an ACC arena, with the home team up by 14, a player on the home team broke away for a transition layup. But before he could rise to the hoop, players on the bench ye...
S7 March 30, 2011 CHICAGO -- Outside the art deco-inspired and quickly-aging United Center is a statue of Michael Jordan, eternally suspended in flight above a roiling sea of overmatched defenders. S7 March 30, 2011 Last year, around this time, we talked about the need for The Document, a comprehensive encapsulation of current glory that could be properly referenced and recalled later. S7 March 28, 2011 SAN ANTONIO -- All media is local, and it's been that way since the beginning: the rumor mill, the town crier, the news bulletin printed on a hand-cranked press. S7 March 25, 2011 SAN ANTONIO -- In March of 2005, during the original 100 Games Project, I felt like it couldn't hurt to ask. S7 March 25, 2011 SAN ANTONIO -- The power of a first impression comes from how forcefully it floods the vacuum of the unknown, how it fills a blank slate so completely. S7 March 21, 2011 CHICAGO -- In 1979, the NCAA expanded its men's basketball tournament from 32 to 40. S7 March 14, 2011 DAYTON -- So let's get the so-called expertise out of the way first. Utah State and Belmont are way underseeded, as in "duh." S7 December 20, 2010 Kyle, I remember reading your "Lombardi" piece when you first posted it, but since you referenced it, I re-read it. S7 December 15, 2010 In 1996, Malik Rose recruited me to Drexel University. Not in person, but through a 17-inch TV set. The invite came in the form of slam dunks and jump shots.
