About Us

Kyle Whelliston

Kyle founded The Mid-Majority in 2004 after a stroke of inspiration in the east stands of The Palestra in Philadelphia. After chronicling a beautiful season of 100 games, ESPN.com brought him on as a contributor for four years. That ended badly.

He's currently a columnist for Basketball Times, and published the TMM essay anthology Sports Bubble Blues in 2009. Kyle also co-authored two books in 2009, one with Kennesaw State head coach Tony Ingle and the other with Samaritan's Feet founder Manny Ohonme. He also built the Basketball State website in his garage.

Kyle was called "a sort of midmajor Jack Kerouac" by Sports Illustrated, and was also favorably compared to Townes Van Zandt by the Harvard Independent. A vegetarian marathoner who likes truck stops, fresh horchata and kitty cats, Kyle used Moleskine notebooks before they were cool. He lives in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

What We Do
Now in its sixth season, The Mid-Majority is a blog about the 24 smaller Division I college basketball conferences (and independents) by Kyle Whelliston.
