The Boubacar 11/16/2007 (Weekend Edition)
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Well, that concludes the first full week of the 2007-08 college basketball season. Just so you know how things will work from here on out, no Boubacars on Saturdays or Sundays, one catch-all G!O!T!N! for all three days, and Bally will show up sometime over the weekend.
Since Gardner-Webb put in a gutsy yet doomed performance last night versus Connecticut, this is my contribution to keeping Runnin' Bulldog Fever going in a posthumous fashion... when I was chatting up G-Webb coach Rick Scruggs for an article the other day, we were talking about how great the Kentucky win was -- but he quickly pointed out that the Coaches vs. Cancer opening-round game, a 69-55 decision over the squad out of the SWAC.
"We were just happy to beat A&M," he said. "Going against a big guy like that really prepared us for the kind of talented size we went up against the next night." So all you Gardner-Webb fans, you can send your appreciative holiday cards to Mickell care of Alabama A&M at P.O. Box 1357 Normal, AL 35762. I've been debating for a few days whether or not to post these, but it's only fair that you all have nightmares too. Happy weekend! The lack of Blue Raider fever didn't stop the MTSU band from showing up and pretending it was a football game. They took over the floor at halftime, and kicked out the jams to a small but appreciative audience (they do a killer "Word Up"). And now, please enjoy the spectacle of an arena where there are more college band members on the floor than fans in the stands. |
