America East WonkGame 103: Michigan 51, at Boston University 46
(with full and absolute apologies to John Gasaway) Wednesday, November 23, 2005
Is There A Triaminic For Coughing Up the Ball? Michigan beat Boston University 51-46 last night at the gleaming new Agannis Arena, which AE-Wonk understands is only accessible by gondola or helicopter. (AE-Wonk once was late for a game there when he drove past the place three times in either direction along Memorial and/or Storrow Drives, but that's a story for another time - like, say, next April.) What, exactly, can one say about this torrid turnover-fest (UM: 19, BU: 18) now that the thesaurus has already been emptied? Sloppy, perhaps? Not pretty? A hold-off? Sure, Kevin Gardner ot his 6-for-13 on and 11 rebounds, but when you have a game so defensive that the offense plays D on itself, you can go ahead and call it what you will! AE-Wonk will just call it, "Wait, isn't the Hartford game on cable tonight?" The first loss in the home-twice-and-home series for BU caused Terrier coach Dennis Wolff to opine wisely, "When you have a roster with the makeup that we have, to play Duke and Michigan in the first two games is a tough deal." And this from a guy who could use a little foundation himself! (Hey, just kidding, Coach!) PPWS-Plosion! A quick check of our America East leaders in Points Per Weighted Shot, a list that continues to be headed up by a bunch of Albanians. Roll tape! PPWS = PTS/(FGA + (0.475 x FTA)) 1. Jamar Wilson, Albany (1.55) 8. Brian Macon, Boston University (1.24) And, the First Five-and-Five in Effective Field Goal Percentage. Look ma, more Danes! eFG pct. = (FGM + (0.5 x 3PM))/FGA 1. Chris Cole, Hartford (75.0) 2. Jamar Wilson, Albany (73.4) In today's less AE-Wonkish venues... Maine beat non-Division I Maine-Fort Kent 86-36 in Orono last night. AE-Wonk can't think of anything to say about this game except that UMFK sounds like code for something with more vowels. Use it the next time someone cuts you off during Portland rush hour on I-95. Game story here. Stony Brook lost to Lehigh 58-54 in Bethlehem, Penna. last night. All the Mike Popoko in the world couldn't keep the Mountain Hawks from winning at home, but he ended up with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Links here and here. Hartford plays Brown tonight at 7 p.m. in Hartford. All AE-Wonk Team member Kenny Adelke doesn't like you or your mother, and wants to dunk over the both of you. New Hampshire plays Providence tonight at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. AE-Wonk knows very well that the center of a Dunkin' Donut is a "Munchkin," and would like a box of 20. He'll even give one to new Wildcats coach Bill Herrion. Okay, two. Vermont plays 25 Nevada in Burlington. This game will feature a Scooby-Doo beginning, with Nick Fazekas ripping off his face to reveal that he's really Taylor Coppenrath with an extra year of eligibility. With that in mind, please take the Catamounts with the points. Binghamton plays 5 Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. A 30-point performance would be nice. And yes, I meant the whole team. AE-Wonk back! Don't just mutter ineffectually; email me! Dear AE-Assmunch: I hope you're choking on a fat piece of your big "I love Albany" cake you baked for yourself at the beginning of the season! Or actually, since Thanksgiving is coming up, maybe it's turkey time! Get it? 'Cause you're the turkey, you dork! Did you see how UA bit it against Sacred Heart last night? Dude, that must be embarrassing for you! If you can't even beat Sacred Heart at home, how do you expect to win any games in January and February? I know how your blog is just a thinly-veiled arm of the Albany sports information office, why don't you just admit it? Keep up the "great work," loser! You suck! - Binghamton Bob Thanks, Bob! ¶ 9:24 AM
