Dribblings 11/12/2004 (Experimental Rules Edition)

|

When you see your first game of the year on the TV, do not adjust your set. All "exempted tournaments" and some exhibition games will be played under experimental rules, which include a 20'6" 3-point line (9 inches farther out), a wider lane with weird angles, and an NBA-style no-charge zone under the basket. Old friend Bill Herrion weighs in. My opinion? Keep the 3-point line, lose the trapezoid.

The NABC Classic tips off today in Albuquerque. Round-robin format, each of the four teams will be guaranteed three games.

The official Mid-Majority policy is that the coaches' and writers' polls are never published, analyzed or acknowledged, but highly regarded Mississippi State had some trouble with MAAC middleton Fairfield last night in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette asks, "Where have all the shooters gone?"

UMass coach Steve Lappas, his job on the line, enters the spin zone and talks about the Minutemen's chances in the Atlantic 10 East.

The epic story of CvC participant UC-Riverside's search for the right mascot. "The student-athletes approached the department administration and told them that they 'didn't want a teddy bear in a dress'."

What We Do
Having recently completed its fourth season, The Mid-Majority is a blog about the 22 smaller Division I college basketball conferences (and independents) by me, Kyle Whelliston. I write for ESPN.com and Basketball Times, and maintain the Basketball State statistics website as well.

Here's a brief note on who we talk about, and why.

If you need to contact me for any reason, you can do so with this form. If you're looking for the stats, maps or budget data, it's all over here now.
